A new website for me... and you?
It was waaaaay past time.
After finding out that I had just 30 days to migrate my website to a new host during a very busy time for me both professionally and personally, I posted on LinkedIn, asking for recommendations for website providers.
I received plenty of compelling, and varying, possibilities from my network’s own experience, and I paid particular attention to the suggestions from other solo indie game writers who've also written for other media, whether books or TV/movies. It was great to get those recommendations, and a couple of host options nearly won me over.
However, I ended up opting for Tertulia, a site I found via other research.
And I could not be happier with my choice.
I was sad to lose my previous website provider. I'd been with Typepad since 2007, and they never once failed to deliver excellent customer service. But by that time "ye olde website" gave the wrong impression about me. Seriously, one potential client approached me saying, "You’re obviously super focused on game writing instead of putting all your effort into a fancy website." Ouch! A backhanded compliment and diss all in one! It turns out all for the best that I had to migrate to a new host.
And Tertulia's customer service is equal to what Typepad's was. Maybe even better, as they are just a bit more responsive, and their user interface is so seamless and well-suited to writers that I found I didn't need them much! 😉
One of the aspects that really works is that the Tertulia backend pulls all of your published books over, plus all the promo material and buy links, on just one ISBN. It's like magic!
